How we rate casinos

One pass-or-fail check, four scored criteria, and a short list of things we leave out on purpose. Here is all of it.

First: the licence check

A casino is only considered if it holds an active UK Gambling Commission licence. We confirm that on the Commission's public register ourselves, note the account number, and link to the entry from the review. This is not scored. A casino either passes or it is not on the site.

Then: four criteria

Each criterion is marked out of ten in half-point steps. The overall score is the weighted average, rounded to one decimal place.

Offer terms 40%

What the welcome offer asks of you once the headline is set aside. We look at what the wagering applies to, the time allowed, whether spins have a shorter clock, the max bet, any cap on conversion, game restrictions, and whether your own deposit stays withdrawable. With wagering capped at 10x across the UK, the conditions around it carry most of the difference.

Clarity of the small print 20%

Can a careful reader work out the offer from the significant terms alone? Marks come off for missing currencies, unstated spin values, minimum deposits that appear in the banner but not the terms, and a large headline figure paired with a small conversion cap.

Game library 20%

Based on what the operator publishes: the stated size of the lobby, the studios named and the titles we could see. Where an operator does not state a figure, the score reflects what we could and could not confirm, rather than a guess.

Operator and licence 20%

How transparent the licence holder is: company details, registration, how clearly the licence is displayed, and how many sister brands share the same account. Brands run by the same licence holder receive the same mark here.

What we don't score

Withdrawal speed, customer service quality, payment method lists and app performance all matter to players. We leave them out because we cannot measure them reliably enough to put a number on them, and a score built on guesswork would undermine the numbers we can stand behind. Where an operator makes a claim in these areas, such as 24/7 live support, we report it as the operator's claim.

We also do not accept payment for scores, and the commission a casino pays has no line in the formula.

How often we check

Offers change without notice. We re-read the terms of every listed offer when we update the ranking, and the date at the top of each page shows when it was last checked. If you find an offer that no longer matches what we print, please tell us; the operator's own terms always take precedence over ours.

Scores are opinions

They are editorial judgements made by a published method, not measurements and not user ratings. Two sensible people could weigh the same terms differently. That is why we show the workings.
